Understanding the Process
Clients often ask, “How long does it take to apply for and get disability benefits?” Unfortunately there is no easy answer.We wish we could move the process along more quickly, but legal procedures require time. Each person’s claim has unique medical facts, and disability adjudicators need varying amounts of time to evaluate each claimant’s evidence.
It can take two years or more from the date you file your initial claim to the day you begin receiving benefits. You can hire an attorney at any point in the process. This chart shows typical stages in the DIB process.
