If you know how to find a good mechanic or contractor, you’re off to a good start in finding legal representation. You are, after all, hiring a professional to do work on your behalf.

Don’t be nervous or intimidated. You’re hiring someone to advocate for benefits critical to the well-being of you and your loved ones. You have the right to hire someone you trust and feel comfortable working with!

Be prepared with a list of questions to ask when choosing your attorney. Here are a few questions we think make a good start:

  • Are you a lawyer licensed to practice in my state?
  • What percentage of your cases deal with Social Security Disability or SSI claims?
  • What are your fees? When do I have to pay?
  • What if my claim is denied?
  • How long have you been working on these types of cases?
  • Who will be the primary lawyer and support staff working on my case? How much experience do they have?
  • What kind of training/professional development do they engage in to keep current in their field?
  • Are you a member of your local Social Security bar section and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives?

If you don’t feel you’re getting a clear, honest response, you should probably look elsewhere for representation. It’s important for you to feel comfortable working with your attorney.

We welcome your questions. If you talk with us and decide to hire another firm, we promise not to take it personally. This is a long process; you should feel great about the relationship before you proceed!
